Personality:
Much like the other three Fabulous Killjoys one of the first traits that can describe Ghoul’s personality is a rebellious attitude. After all – you can’t be a Runner if you didn’t have that in you, or at least you couldn’t survive long in the Zones without a rebellious streak. Like the other as well, Ghoul would never think of listening to any sort of authority figure nowadays, and most rules that they have are ones based on survival. Like rule number one, Keep Running, and rule number two, always have a second.

From such a rebellious attitude comes an immense sense of courage. Ghoul doesn’t shy away from danger, and is often in the forefront of a fire fight. It also links closely to his desire to protect his crew. He throws caution to the wind when any of them are in danger and is willing to give up his life to protect them – something seen at the end of the SING music video when he shuts the doors to give Jet Star and the Girl cover. One could also call the decision, and some of his actions, as impulsive and that courage as one of his fatal flaws. Ghoul would be offended by that fact – even if there was some truth to it.

Ghoul is a caring young man; perhaps one of the few lessons he took from the city had been to care about others thanks to his mother. Not that he talks about that, as it was another life. However he cares deeply for his crew – Party Poison, Jet Star, Kobra Kid and the Girl – as well as others he’s gotten close too in the Zones like Agent Cherri Cola, Dr. D, Show Pony and the other DJs. He also cares about the others out in the Zones, even though he’s aware that there’s only so much they can do. It is frustrating at best sometimes, but a sad fact.

Of course his tendency to throw caution to the wind – some might call it recklessness - can get him into an awful lot of trouble. As can his desire to want to help people (and have fun in the process). That’s something that can be heard about in the Listening Party when he and Kobra were raising carbons (money) for an orphanage in the Zones.

He tends to be a little childish at times, and he certainly isn’t good at sitting around. He is the type of guy that always has to be doing something, whether it’s fiddling with something or bouncing his legs in his seat. Ghoul is incapable of staying still - except when it’s a life or death matter. The childishness also comes from the carefree attitude he has. There are times when they need to be serious – that he knows all too well – but that’s not needed 24/7. So Ghoul jokes around, makes face and generally tries to remind his friends of that when he thinks their being too serious. Even if sometimes it can lead to arguments… And the running joke that someone needs to babysit him.

It’s thanks to this carefree attitude too that keeps Ghoul from actually losing his temper too often. He is slow to anger, really, and the only definite things that can set him off are Korse, dracs, BLI in general or those he cares about being put in danger. He can get agitated, of course he’s human, and he butts heads with the others at time (most notably Party), but Ghoul always tries to keep a level head. Even when he does lose his temper it’s not long before he cools off because for him life is too short to stay angry. Unless, that is, you do something that ends up harming his family.

Dr. Death Defying’s Listening Party, the whole album and some Zone facts

For Fun Ghoul he will insist that his life didn’t begin until he left the city for the Zones. Naturally that can’t be entirely true – he was already thirteen when he hit the Zones – but for him when you come to the Zones and pick a new name and colors you start fresh. The life he led before coming to the Zones, when he was in Battery City, was the life of someone else. He thinks about it sometimes, but it’s like watching through someone else’s eyes. All that matters in the end is that he ran away from the city, hating how strict things were becoming. It was by pure luck that he ran into others within his first year – first Jet Star and then later Party Poison and Kobra Kid. The four boys had chosen to stick together shortly after they met, despite butting heads from time to time. It was within the early time of their group that they created two very important rules that they agreed to live by: The first was to always keep running, the second was to always have a second when going anywhere.

It didn’t take long until the news of a rebellion forming reached them. They sought out these other Zone Runners, wanting to help in the fight against BLI. They were young, of course, but determined to do something. That was when they met the young woman who was the leader of the rebels. Ghoul had been amazed by her spirit, and while he shared her hatred of BLI was a little startled at times by just how much she hated the company. It left him wondering just what BLI had done to her in the past, though he never asked. It wasn’t anyone’s business but hers. He came to admire her greatly, and at the very least she seemed rather amused by the four teenagers. The admiration only grew when she didn’t send them away, treating them like any of the other rebels. She didn’t seem to care about their age though looking back Ghoul has a suspicion they were still kept away from some of the more dangerous fronts.

It was while with the young leader and other rebels that Ghoul learned how to properly shoot a raygun – and while he wasn’t the quickest shot in the group, still excelled at it. He would also harass anyone he could to learn new things, such as how to build explosives and repair engines. It was during that short time that the proper building blocks had been laid to create the Fabulous Killjoys, and he really wonders what would have happened had they not been allowed to join the rebel ranks. They probably would have been ghosted.

The Analogue Wars began, and Ghoul soon lost track of just how many were lost. It was a valiant effort, but despite that fact the rebels could not overcome Better Living’s opposition. In the end the rebellion was squashed, and the woman that led them was captured, forced to where one of the masks that stood for everything she fought against. On top of that though, the woman was pregnant, something that soon reached the four’s ears.

While one could call their plan utterly reckless (Ghoul liked to think of it as genius, though) they snuck into Battery City, stealing the baby girl right out from under BLI’s nose. It wasn’t an easy feat, of course, and really looking back Ghoul can’t be sure how they succeeded, but they did. The news spread of the baby – some calling her a savior that could bring down BLI. Ghoul was never sure how true that was, but what he did know was that a little girl was far too young for such a weight. It was agreed that they would keep her apparent destiny secret from her until she was older, teaching her how to survive in the Zones and whatever they could. Ghoul found himself on more than one occasion sorting through the memories of a time before the desert to teach the Girl things he had learned from his mother. Of course a lot of them were Italian curse words, but hey they were still lessons.

Not that it was easy. They were four teenagers who really didn’t know much about raising a child, but they managed. There were times Ghoul felt guilty that due to the nature of the Zones, and the fact that BLI was constantly hunting for their crew, that she couldn’t live a “normal” childhood. Those guilty thoughts were usually brushed aside though the moment she came running over to him with a bright smile. Along the way the group met others like them, as well as the DJs whose voices filled the quiet hours of the days from the little radio the Girl carried around with them.

There were many close calls, many near death experiences, far more then Ghoul wanted to count because really one was enough. But they were lucky, they pulled through each time and continued to be a thorn in Korse and BLI’s sides.

At least until the day their luck ran out.

There had been an increase on drac patrols, enough to put them on edge, and enough that caused more firefights and chases than usual. Ghoul couldn’t even remember why the Girl had been on her own – especially as it was one of their few rules to always have someone with you just in case. All he could remember was the chilling realization that she was alone, and then the mad rush to find her. It didn’t take long though, and then the four found themselves in an old fashioned Western shootout against Korse and his dracs. At the time Ghou had been confident that they’d win again, that it would be okay.

They lost – but Korse made a terrible mistake when he simply told them to “keep running”, he should have killed them right there.

Why? Because killjoys never die, and there was no way in hell that they weren’t going to rescue one of their own, especially one that they loved.

In the days that followed the four recovered, and tempers were high. They formed what could only be called a suicide mission, something Ghoul knew they all knew but no one wanted to say it. It was only once the initial plan was formed that the suggestion to have a backup plan was voice, though he couldn’t remember who suggested it. Convincing Dr. D and the other DJs to be the getaway drivers wasn’t hard – not that Ghoul thought it would be.

What he didn’t expect though was Agent Cherri Cola to refused to help them, something that was a hard pill to swallow. Ghoul couldn’t help but be hurt by it, and even a little angry. It set a tone for the group as they drove the trans am to the city, no one speaking much. Ghoul had spent most of the ride checking his raygun or staring out the window. At one point he considered lighting one of his cigarettes, only to realize he was down to one in his pack.

It was a silly habit, but Ghoul never liked smoking his last cigarette until he bought a new pack. The reason why was something he didn’t tell many people, and would generally shrug the questions off with a cheery “fuck knows how long it’ll be I might want it later!” The real reason, though, was he kept one cigarette on him at all times so that if he were to die at least he’d have a smoke with him. Lighting the last cigarette without a new pack was like accepting his fate. So Ghoul kept the pack in his vest pocket, thinking to himself how as long as it remained unlit then he’d survive. They would all survive.

Deep down he knew that wouldn’t happen.

They attacked the BLI headquarters, rescuing the Girl. However on the way out they encountered Korse and countless of dracs, and needless to say a fight began. It was pure and utter chaos, and before Ghoul even realized it Party had been killed, then Kobra. With only himself and Jet standing they grabbed the Girl, making for the door. And it was there then Ghoul made a choice. He shut the door behind him, turning to face a firing squad in the hopes of giving Jet and Girl enough time to get away.

Abilities: Ghoul wouldn’t call himself an explosions expert, but he’s totally a wannabe explosions expert, as well as a fairly skilled mechanic. He’s a good shot with a gun and knows how to hold his own in a fight.

Relationships to Canon Characters:
Party Poison, Kobra Kid, Jet Star – Ghoul would not hesitate to call the other three members of the Fabulous Killjoys family. They have been through just about everything together and stuck by one another’s side even when things look grim. Ghoul would not hesitate to call the three brothers – with everything it implies from loving each other one minute to wanting to strangle the other the next because of an argument.

The Girl – A literal ray of hope in the Zones, literally. Ghoul adores the Girl, and tries his best to make her smile and laugh because he knows one day she’s going to have the weight of the Zones on her tiny shoulders. For him she is like a little sister, though he knows that she might see him more in a parental light at times given he and the other three raised her.

Agent Cherri Cola – The sixth ranger and sometimes the poor, unfortunate soul that has had to babysit Ghoul on some of the days he was insanely restless. While he may not be one of the four, he’s still part of the group. It’s part of the reason why Ghoul was so surprised, and hurt, that Cola wouldn’t help them rescue the Girl.

Dr. Death Defying and Show Pony – Because in his head it’s hard to not think of one without the other, and both are people would consider close friends and allies. Dr. D has saved their butts more than once with his broadcasts, and is one they could turn to for advice. Pony meanwhile is a ray of sunshine in the desert, and Ghoul will forever be jealous of his ability to roller skate (as he is as graceful as a drunken giraffe on skates).

Korse and BLI – Korse is a dick and Ghoul had like to just shoot him dead for once but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Network/Actionspam Sample: Here we go!

Prose Log Sample:
Fun Ghoul did not like cities – there was a reason he chose to live in a desert instead of the city. Yet here he was, stuck in a city with only one or two upsides. The most important one was of course that the Girl was here, safe, that upside actually made living in the city a bit easier to stomach.

He supposed that the fact there were so many trees around made it nice too. He had come to the park earlier to just walk around. The quiet of the air was still something he wasn’t used too, and it led to him humming on of Mad Gear and Missile Kid’s songs. To be perfectly honest he wasn’t sure he’d ever get used to so much quiet, for him times of quiet while something to cherish also felt like the eye of a storm. It made him anxious, but he reminded himself that there was no Korse or dracs or BLI around. Sure there were other threats, but at least some had been crossed off the list.

With a sigh he paused under a tree, hands in his pockets as he looked up. Suddenly he remembered a promise he’d made the first time he’d gotten off that train; he’d promised the Girl he’d show her how to climb a tree despite not knowing how to do so himself. Ghoul groaned to himself, looking around almost comically to make sure no one was around. After determining the coast was clear he reached up, hopping to grab a branch before struggling to climb up.

The best way to learn was by doing, right?
